INSTRUCTOR RECERTIFICATION EXPIRATION
Effective this year, MPTC Firearms Instructor certifications will run on a 3 year cycle. If you recertify this year, your expiration date will be in 2015 instead of 2014.

GLOCK ARMORER SCHOOL
The MPTC will host a Glock Armorer's school at MPTC HQ in Randolph on March 29, 2012. The cost is $195 per student payable to Glock. Registration should be done through the Glock website - www.glocktraining.com. Be sure to submit a MPTC application to the Firearms Coordinator as well. More info.

FIREARMS TRAINING AREA REPRESENTATIVES
In order to assist instructors with questions and to insure they receive a reply in a timely manner, the Firearms Coordinator has divided up the state in areas covered by an Area Representative. These representatives will cover the state by counties and outside agencies. Please contact them if you have any questions regarding MPTC Firearms Training programs. MPTC CONTRACTS WILL EXPIRE 6/30/12 IMPORTANT INFORMATION
Firearms instructors who have a contract with the MPTC to teach are reminded that their contract will expire on 6/30. This will affect Advanced Instructors who teach at the academy level and all Instructor Trainers & Master Instructor Trainers. MPTC QUALIFICATION COURSE DATA COLLECTION FORM - UPDATE
In response to feed back from you, we have updated the Qual Course Data Collection form. The 100% round accountability requirement has not been implemented yet for municipal police officers - only recruits and instructors. The data collection forms are now available in both Excel and PDF formats. The Excel form will compute your scores - just input the number of scoreable hits. Also posted is a sample form in PDF of how to fill it out. Please remember that the MPTC in not requiring 100% round accountability from your people at this time. We are asking you to submit data from your qualification programs so that we can evaluate the impact that 100% round accountability might have if it was implemented.

MPTC SPECIALTY IMPACT MUNITIONS (LESS LETHAL) PROGRAM
Less Lethal Instructor certification is now available to currently certified MPTC Firearms Instructors by attending one of the scheduled 2 Day Recertification classes. Certification will be offered in 12 gauge or 40mm single projectile, kinetic energy rounds such as the "super sock", "drag stabilized" or "Xact Impact" rounds. This program is brand neutral. The MPTC has a limited number of less lethal launchers which will be made available to the class. Recertifying instructors are responsible for supplying their own less lethal rounds which are available from Interstate Arms, Jurek Brothers and Milton Walsh Associates. Be sure to order at least 60 days in advance since most dealers do not stock these rounds.

MPTC PISTOL QUALIFICATION COURSE
The MPTC Pistol Qualification Course with Movement has been renamed to MPTC Pistol Qualification Course. The old course is now completely obsolete and should be deleted.
RESERVE INTERMITTENT RECRUIT OFFICER FIREARMS PROGRAM
The MPTC is working on an abbreviated recruit firearms program for the Reserve Intermittent Academy. This will be the standard recruit firearms program for all part time officers whether taught at the academy or at the department level. More information will be posted here as it becomes available. 2/11/11
FIREARMS INSTRUCTOR CERTIFICATES
When you apply to attend a Firearms Instructor Recertification, you must also complete the Firearms Instructor Data Form (see the link above) in order to receive a certificate. Be sure to include your email address. Certificates will be sent to you by email as an attachment. 1/29/2011
CHANGES FOR THE 2011/2012 TRAINING CYCLE
Effective January 1, 2013, the minimum passing score for MPTC Firearms Instructors will be 94% with 100% round accountability.
Round accountability will be introduced into the veteran officer qualification in the future. The MPTC has introduced a Qualification Data Collection form to track shooter performance in the qualification course. Department instructors shall fax or email this data to the Firearms Coordinator. A link to this has been posted above. Further details will be distributed at the instructor recertifications.

MPTC ADOPTS MINIMUM STANDARDS FOR HANDGUN QUALIFICATION & TRAINING FOR POLICE OFFICERS
Effective March 1, 2010, these new standards become the minimum level of qualification and training for Municipal Police Officers, including full time, part time, reserve and intermittent, in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Click here for details. 5/1/2010
